Active carbon filters

A.filter now has a HIGH TEMP activated carbon filter cartridge in it's supply package. It's the CACX68 and this one can be used untill 85 degrees Celsius.

Active carbon can be used if the pollution can't be filtered with a normal particle filter but can be adsorbed. It is mostly used for solvents, odours, hydrocarbons, alkaline etc. By sending the pollution through the active carbon, the pollution is adsorbed by the active carbon. The open structure gives the carbon a high surface area. Adsorption capacity of certain materials can be improved by active carbon treatment. When the carbon is polluted, regeneration is possible which makes it a very economic filter material. When special chemical filtration is needed we can provide a special ceramic active carbon. The active carbon is mostly sold as cartridge but a.filter can also provide filter bags with active carbon.

Advantages

  • Huge adsorption
  • Many different applications possible
  • Backwashing with steam possible
  • Small capacity loss after backwashing (5% - 10%)
  • Available in broken carbon, extruded carbon and pressed carbon.
  • Flexible packaging, cylinders, panels, pressure vessel and filter bags.
  • Large capacities possible

Application examples

  • De-chlorous of process water
  • Improve taste of liquids
  • Remove un-wanted odours
  • Improve basic colour properties
  • Remove oil components from water/ waste water
  • Remove solvents and oil particles from process and waste water
  • De-colouring of fluids

Materials

Active carbon can be produced from coal, pine wood and cocos. With a chemical or thermical process the carbon is "activated", which gives the name active carbon.

Technical specifications

The filtration degree depends on a lot of different influences, like the time the pollution is in the active carbon which gives it a surface percentage of almost 100%.
